Three French Hens...and some luck!

My third wine of Christmas is for all who love a great, inexpensive white to sip on, or mix in a spritzer. It would also be a great party favour to bring along this holiday season! 

2010 Pillitteri, 23 Unoaked Chardonnay  
Niagara-on-the-Lake

Very clear in colour and the nose is shy, only showing hints of mineral and citrus. Not to my surprise, the palate is quite similar. Light bodied, low acidity, not complex. Hey, this is not necessarily a bad thing...in terms of easy drinking and price, it's fun and affordable! 

I'm sure you're wondering where the luck is?

....it's in the bottle! 

Gary Pillitteri, the owner of Pilliteri Estates Winery can't seem to get away from the number 23 or separately as a 2 or 3. They decided to dedicate a series to his luck, and pass it on to the consumer!

  • Feb 23rd his daughter was born
  • Feb 23rd he also won a new car at an auction! 
  • ...the list goes on!

Not Your Average Christmas Ham

The Ham  It was a few months ago at the Mudgee Wine Show where I finally said it out loud: I want to get a pig and eat it.  Okay, I understand that sounds cryptic but I can assure you it’s truly not. Every week we walk the isles of the supermarket catering to our wants and needs for energy and if you are anything like me, you read the catalogs for the latest specials to save a couple bucks. If it isn't on special I don’t buy it but does that mean the product is not worth the money? *Light bulb* How hard can it be to grow/ raise you own food? I can barely fulfill my need for fresh herbs with my own herb garden so I am guessing if I had to raise my own animals for meat, the occasion where I do enjoy the beast would be much more sentimental, or perhaps appreciated. The Hardy Vegetarian

My resolution this year is to try and be more self sufficient, go to the gym more, and loose weight, blah blah blah....but I really do want to be more self sufficient! There are so many efficient ways we can devote our time to besides watching TV, facebooking, etc. There is a great blog that Court showed me over the holidays where the focus is on self sufficiency.  Crackers  is what inspired my resolution and though Aaron and I don't have a garden, or even a pantry, we can make small changes to decrease our reliance on supermarkets. While saving money at the same time .  THE SNACK Japanese Roasted Chickpeas Chickpeas are so high in protein and fibre, making them a great mid day snack for lunches, or to have ready and available in a bowl at home. Now of course I don't mean set out a can of chickpeas! In fact I buy mine bagged dry, for a much cheaper price than the can, and there is less preservatives.
