On the 2nd day of Christmas...

This little gem is more than just a wine, its love in a bottle! 

If you have any animal lover's on your list, this is the PERFECT gift to give. 50 cents from each bottle is donated to the Lincoln County Humane Society, now I know that may not seem like a lot however if everyone who reads my blog were to purchase a bottle to give or to drink, then that would contribute a substantial amount donated. As you can see from the pic below I'm enjoying a glass right now!

This is a blend of gamay noir, merlot and cabernet franc, making it a light bodied red that is very fruit forward with notes of cherry and raspberries. The tannins are moderate but the acidity is fairly noticeable! If you are looking for a complex wine this is not the one, but its easy drinking ability is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

The story behind the wine is very cute. The two black cats you see on the front are Molly and Dolly "the dream team". They were two stray cats that showed up in the vineyard and won over the hearts of the team at Cattail Creek, which inspired them to make this particular blend as a tribute to Molly and Dolly.

The Lincoln County Humane Society is in St. Catharines and it basically covers all of the Niagara area, bringing in at least 10 stray cats a day and giving them a second chance at life. 

This is also available in a white wine blend for those who don't drink red.

Not Your Average Christmas Ham

The Ham  It was a few months ago at the Mudgee Wine Show where I finally said it out loud: I want to get a pig and eat it.  Okay, I understand that sounds cryptic but I can assure you it’s truly not. Every week we walk the isles of the supermarket catering to our wants and needs for energy and if you are anything like me, you read the catalogs for the latest specials to save a couple bucks. If it isn't on special I don’t buy it but does that mean the product is not worth the money? *Light bulb* How hard can it be to grow/ raise you own food? The Hardy Vegetarian

My resolution this year is to try and be more self sufficient, go to the gym more, and loose weight, blah blah blah....but I really do want to be more self sufficient! There are so many efficient ways we can devote our time to besides watching TV, facebooking, etc. There is a great blog that Court showed me over the holidays where the focus is on self sufficiency.  Crackers  is what inspired my resolution and though Aaron and I don't have a garden, or even a pantry, we can make small changes to decrease our reliance on supermarkets. While saving money at the same time .  THE SNACK Japanese Roasted Chickpeas Chickpeas are so high in protein and fibre, making them a great mid day snack for lunches, or to have ready and available in a bowl at home.
