TOP ORGANIC WINE - UNDER $16

With the holidays around the corner so is the season for sharing! Holiday parties bring on the feeling of finding that perfect host/hostess gift or that great bottle of wine to contribute to the party. Luckily you don't have to go out and spend too much money to impress a crowd. Here are my top picks for great value organic wines for under $16. They should be available at most LCBO's across Ontario. 



 Connect Organic White Blend

 Southbrook Vineyards, Niagara

This is a fun white blend made up of Vidal, Riesling, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. There is a very subtle hint of sweetness but the acidity balances that out very well. A great wine to open before dinner while the appetizers are floating around, goes especially well with anything cheesy. 




Era Montepulciano D'Abruzzo DOC Organic

$9.95

Montepulciano, Italy 

LCBO Item #:255844

Fruity and savoury this is an all around'r medium bodied red that will go with almost anything on the table. I like it because it tastes like a $25 wine and is incredibly smooth and easy to drink, even on its own.

Yummy!! I think it is safe to say Italy has great value organic wines that are easy on the pocket. Despite most reviews of this wine, I find it very soft and smooth. I was told they have changed the labels so the next shipment to the LCBO will look differently, but carry the same name. Great to have out for finger foods, or on the table next to the roast.

My resolution this year is to try and be more self sufficient, go to the gym more, and loose weight, blah blah blah....but I really do want to be more self sufficient! There are so many efficient ways we can devote our time to besides watching TV, facebooking, etc. There is a great blog that Court showed me over the holidays where the focus is on self sufficiency.  Crackers  is what inspired my resolution and though Aaron and I don't have a garden, or even a pantry, we can make small changes to decrease our reliance on supermarkets. Not Your Average Christmas Ham

The Ham  It was a few months ago at the Mudgee Wine Show where I finally said it out loud: I want to get a pig and eat it.  Okay, I understand that sounds cryptic but I can assure you it’s truly not. Every week we walk the isles of the supermarket catering to our wants and needs for energy and if you are anything like me, you read the catalogs for the latest specials to save a couple bucks. If it isn't on special I don’t buy it but does that mean the product is not worth the money? *Light bulb* How hard can it be to grow/ raise you own food? I can barely fulfill my need for fresh herbs with my own herb garden so I am guessing if I had to raise my own animals for meat, the occasion where I do enjoy the beast would be much more sentimental, or perhaps appreciated.
